Soul Value at Old Slater Mill

Experience Rhode Island history through a powerful blend of theater, dance, ritual, and song with Soul Value, a special performance presented at Old Slater Mill in celebration of RI250 and the Pawtucket Arts Festival.

Performed by April H. Brown and Jessica T. Pearson, Soul Value brings to life the often-overlooked stories of Black and Indigenous women in New England—including Elleanor Eldridge, Elizabeth Freeman, and Margaret Kinnicutt—along with the men of the 1st Rhode Island Regiment during and after the American Revolutionary War.

Drawing from historical records, court documents, and archival research, the performance transforms documented history into a moving live experience exploring freedom, equality, resilience, advocacy, and survival.

Set against the historic backdrop of Old Slater Mill, Soul Value offers audiences a compelling opportunity to experience Rhode Island's Revolutionary-era history through the lives and voices of people whose contributions have too often gone untold.
