I Hear America Singing
In celebration of America’s 250th commemorative year, AUREA presents a powerful new iteration of I Hear America Singing, featuring acclaimed actress, vocalist, and activist Rose Weaver.
Blending spoken word, chamber music, song, and harmonica improvisation, the program explores the evolving ideals of American democracy through the writings of Walt Whitman and Langston Hughes and music by celebrated American composers including Florence Price, George Gershwin, Amy Beach, Charles Ives, and Jessie Montgomery.
Under the artistic direction of Consuelo Sherba, AUREA brings music and words together to reflect on freedom, inclusion, and the many voices that make up the American experience.
